Target Ovarian Cancer's National Research Programme

Target Ovarian Cancer is pleased to have launched its medical research programme, a unique UK-wide funding scheme specifically targeted at accelerating the progress of ovarian cancer research.

We have received numerous high quality applications for our first funding round which is now closed. We plan to announce our next funding round in Autumn 2012.

Our programme includes translational project grants, palliative care awards and joint clinical fellowships with the Medical Research Council (MRC). For more information please see our 'applying for funding pages'.

Our 'what we fund' page reflects the strategy for our medical research programme which was developed by our Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) guided by the Target Ovarian Cancer Research Forum hosted by our Patron, Professor Sir Kenneth Calman (former Chair of the National Cancer Research Institute) in February 2010. This event bought together UK researchers and key funders to take forward ideas on overcoming current barriers in the research field.

Our 'how we award a grant' page explains how research applications will be assessed by our SAB in conjunction with lay review and external peer review to ensure we fund the highest quality research with the greatest potential benefit for women with ovarian cancer. Our ‘Patient Research Consultative Group’ will help guide the evolution of our research strategy and members of this group will act as lay reviewers.

The medical research programme compliments our ongoing research into the experience of those living or working with ovarian cancer in the UK called the Target Ovarian Cancer Pathfinder Study. We are also investigating issues surrounding earlier diagnosis and delays to seeking treatment through a jointly funded PhD studentship with Cancer Research UK

If you have any questions about our research please do not hesistate to contact our Head of Research, Dr Simon Newman.
