Nurse Hero Award

Nominate your Nurse Hero and celebrate their life-changing care.

Please note, nominations for the Nurse Hero Award 2023 have now closed. Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for the announcement of the winners.

At Target Ovarian Cancer we know that a diagnosis of ovarian cancer can be devastating. After the diagnosis comes treatment, which can be a frightening and isolating time. The support and expertise of Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) is at the heart of ovarian cancer care – so we want to celebrate CNSs with you and hear about those that have gone above and beyond to give you or your loved one exceptional support.

  • Does your CNS make you feel that you always have someone to turn to for emotional support?

  • Does your CNS demonstrate exceptional communication skills?

  • Is your CNS dedicated to delivering compassionate care?

  • Has your CNS used their expert knowledge and skills to support you to in treatment decisions and with the side effects of treatment?

  • Does your loved one have a diagnosis of ovarian cancer? Has a CNS gone the extra mile to support you, whilst also giving outstanding care to your family member or friend?

To recognise the unique role that CNSs play in delivering extraordinary care to everyone affected by ovarian cancer, we are launching the first Target Ovarian Cancer Nurse Hero Award.

My CNS has been my absolute rock during my eight years of treatment. She has been a constant support and nothing is ever too much trouble for her.

💜 Emma Christou: ‘Above and Beyond’ category winner – ‘Individual who goes the extra mile and above the requirements of their role for their patients.’

Who can I nominate?

Our Nurse Hero Award aims to recognise the impact of all Clinical Nurse Specialists; however nominations should be based on the care of those with a diagnosis of ovarian cancer.

Can I nominate more than one Clinical Nurse Specialist?

If you have received exceptional care from more than one CNS, we would love to hear about each of them. You can nominate more than one CNS that has supported your ovarian cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Nomination form

Can I nominate a family member or friend’s CNS?

If a CNS has gone above and beyond to support your loved one with their diagnosis of ovarian cancer, you can nominate to recognise their impact too.

We know that a diagnosis affects loved ones too, and nominating in the Nurse Hero Award is a way you can share your thanks for the support they have provided to you as a family member, partner or friend.

I’m a healthcare professional, can I promote the award to my patients?

If you think the Nurse Hero Award would be of interest to those you support, please share this page so they can find out more.

We’re looking for nominations from those with a diagnosis of ovarian cancer and their loved ones only for this 2023 Nurse Hero Award.

What will the winners receive?

The four winners will each receive a prize, personalised certificate, the positive comments from those that nominated them, and recognition of their hard work and dedication from Target Ovarian Cancer.

Although we are unable to award prizes to all nominees of this Nurse Hero Award, each CNS will receive a personalised certificate of recognition (with their consent) and will be acknowledged across our communications to share their incredible impact.

Valerie Lang, CNS and Target Ovarian Cancer Nurse Adviser

I have worked at Target Ovarian Cancer for five years in the role of Nurse Adviser. Before taking this role, I was a gynaecology Clinical Nurse Specialist so have first-hand experience of the difference a CNS can make. Not just for the women they support but for their families too.

Their work is invaluable ensuring that women feel safe, heard, and supported throughout their diagnosis and ongoing treatment.

I feel privileged to be a part of the judging panel for the Nurse Hero Award. To celebrate the difference that these nurses make is so important, they give so much, and it is wonderful for that to be recognised and celebrated.
