I am very interested in learning about any new developments for treatment or advances in understanding why ovarian cancer often recurs.

Are there any new treatments or advances in understanding why ovarian cancer often recurs?

Potentially all cancers can recur. We can’t speak confidently of 100% cure because we go back to the microscopic, potential cancer cells that may be lying somewhere. Cancer is curable though, and it can present in advanced stages and be cured - but from the time of diagnosis, to be able to say that the cancer is cured, time must pass. As the years go by, we can say more confidently, ‘If it doesn’t come back, it’s cured’ but up until a certain time, the curve doesn’t fall completely to zero. We cannot say that we are cured because we have had surgery and the scan’s negative. We need a period of observation.  We do use the word remission to start with, before we end up using the term cure.
