What is the risk of my cancer recurring and why? I had the all the clear recently but I wonder if it will occur in another area and why.
It’s very difficult to give anybody the 100 per cent guarantee we would all love to but unfortunately, there’s always a risk. What we can show from our data is that your risk of recurrence dramatically decreases over the first two years, by five years its lower and by ten years it’s down to miniscule. By twenty years it’s down to absolutely negligible but there is always a risk. Nobody can say ‘never’. The most important thing is if you feel something’s different, report it. Preferably, we discharge people with the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) contact number and ideally a leaflet about what symptoms to look for.
