Ihab's Run 11 story

Ever since my mum was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, I've been in contact with Target Ovarian Cancer. I found out about Run11 online and quickly created my own squad and fundraiser to support the charity and raise money for much needed research.

Ever since my mum was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, I've been in contact with Target Ovarian Cancer. I found out about Run11 online and quickly created my own squad and fundraiser to support the charity and raise money for much needed research.

My motivation

I had three motivators for taking part. Firstly, I work in the pharmaceuticals' research and development space, and I strongly believe in the power of science through research. Funding research will save lives - helping us understand more about this disease and better support women during their health journey.

I’m also passionate about raising awareness of health inequity for women globally. Ovarian cancer is one of the lowest funded cancer diseases in oncology. There needs to be greater visibility and an increased effort to address this.

On a personal level, I wanted to commemorate my mother's life – with the event being almost exactly a year after her passing.

I do enjoy running - I used it during Covid to help manage my stress levels and keep me calm and hopeful for the future. Saying that, I did train before this event to make sure my joints would serve me well!

Joining Team Target

The support from the Target Ovarian Cancer team leading up to the event was equally valuable. Honestly, Rachel was beyond amazing. She was like my shadow cheerleader, giving me tips about fundraising which helped me encourage my friends to get involved.

My favourite memories from the day are the choir who joined us at the start line, the board of remembrance, and above all the spirit of the runners and their supporting groups.

I remember I couldn't help but cry on the bus on my way to the park feeling that my mother was going to be amongst those cheering for me from above. Joining everyone who had their own stories to tell was so heartwarming. A really special experience.

To anyone thinking about getting involved in an upcoming event with Target Ovarian Cancer I would say do not hesitate to join the fun and spread the joy!

By taking part, you really are impacting the lives of those that have been affected by ovarian cancer. If like me, you’ve had a personal experience with ovarian cancer, get involved, raise awareness, and help to create a better future for everyone diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
