Target Ovarian Cancer is delighted to announce a new call for research project grant applications, as part of our distinctive medical research programme. We are inviting researchers from across the UK to apply for up to £200,000 of funding for projects that aim to optimise and develop more effective and less toxic treatments for ovarian cancer.
Ovarian cancer is a challenging and complex disease and we need to discover new and better treatments now. This exciting new call for project proposals builds on the £1,000,000 we have already invested in world class ovarian cancer specific research, to accelerate the discovery of new life extending treatments and improve the quality of life for women with ovarian cancer.
Our research programme has already resulted in a new protocol being rolled out for genetic testing, and developed new approaches that could make ovarian tumours more sensitive to chemotherapy. Ongoing projects are looking into new treatments and the earlier detection of ovarian cancer. The research we fund will save lives.
Annwen Jones, Chief Executive of Target Ovarian Cancer says: “Research funding for ovarian cancer has dropped by a third in the past five years. There is an urgent need to increase investment. Great improvements have been made in other women’s cancers, yet no similar innovation has been made in ovarian cancer. This is a priority for Target Ovarian Cancer, and I’m delighted that we’re able to invest in another research grant at this time.”
Dr Liz Moore, the recipient of our prestigious Target Ovarian Cancer/Medical Research Council joint Clinical Research Training Fellowship and who is investigating novel methods for the earlier and more precise detection of ovarian cancer, said: “A lot has been done in research but there is so much more to do. It's really important that Target Ovarian Cancer funds research. I hope it has a big impact on women in the future.”
Target Ovarian Cancer does not receive any government funding. This research is only made possible through donations and legacies. If you would like to contribute to these research projects and improve the lives of women with ovarian cancer, please support us.
Together we can fund life-saving research to help double ovarian cancer survival rates. It’s time to TAKE OVAR.
