This November Sharon Hodgson MP chaired the meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Ovarian Cancer. which focused on prevention, awareness and diagnosis of ovarian cancer. The meeting took place at parliament with experts and women with ovarian cancer attending.

The speakers included Dr Marc Tischkowitz, who talked to attendees about his recent research into genetic testing for women with ovarian cancer, funded by Target Ovarian Cancer, and Dr Victoria Barber, a GP in Northamptonshire who works with Target Ovarian Cancer on GP education.

There was an opportunity for the women with ovarian cancer to ask questions including GPs’ access to diagnostic tests, how to increase symptoms awareness among patients and the potential for future screening programmes.

Lastly, Annwen Jones, Chief Executive of Target Ovarian Cancer, briefly updated on the Be Clear on Cancer awareness campaign, which aims to improve early diagnosis of cancer in England by making more people aware of the symptoms to look out for.
