“As part of the World Ovarian Cancer Day steering group, we are very proud to be a founder member of such an important worldwide initiative.”

World Ovarian Cancer Day brings together ovarian cancer organisations across the globe every year on 8 May to shout about ovarian cancer and raise awareness as we unite as One Voice for Every Woman.

Target Ovarian Cancer is excited to be part of World Ovarian Cancer Day, a worldwide event that the charity helped found. We will join with ovarian cancer communities from around the world as we unite in a global movement to raise awareness of ovarian cancer.

What needs to change?

Ovarian cancer has the lowest survival rate of all gynaecological cancers, and is characterised around the world by a lack of awareness of symptoms and late stage diagnosis. Ovarian cancer is diagnosed annually in nearly a quarter of a million women globally and is responsible for 140,000 deaths each year.

8 May 2013 was the first World Ovarian Cancer Day. On this day, ovarian cancer organisations from around the world united to educate their communities about ovarian cancer and its symptoms. For women living with the disease and their families and friends, World Ovarian Cancer Day has built, and will continue to build, a sense of solidarity against the disease.

wocdOur campaign so far

  • World Ovarian Cancer Days: Target Ovarian Cancer has been a founding member involved in World Ovarian Cancer Day every year since 2013.
  • Using social media: We use social media each year to publicise World Ovarian Cancer Day.
  • Working collaboratively across the globe: Target Ovarian Cancer is proud to serve on the steering group for World Ovarian Cancer Day, working with over 100 ovarian cancer organisations from 32 countries around the world to help educate their communities about ovarian cancer and its symptoms.
  • Working collaboratively in the UK: We work with Ovarian Cancer Action, The Eve Appeal and Ovacome to support this initiative working together to raise awareness with the UK population.

What I know now...

In 2016, supporters of Target Ovarian Cancer trekked in China and had the unique opportunity to place a brick in the Great Wall of China on behalf of women with ovarian cancer, with a dedication of hope for the future.

We asked, If you knew then what you know now, what message would you share? We received a lot of #Knownow messages and shared them as part of the global campaign.
