Michael is holding a charity gala this June in Edinburgh. After losing his childhood friend to ovarian cancer, Michael wanted make sure that women living with ovarian cancer are getting the support they need.
Let me tell you about my dear childhood friend Katie. She graduated a few years ago with a degree in primary teaching, she loved people and always had a smile on her face. She worked hard and was a quietly confident individual others enjoyed being around. Sadly, Katie passed away three years ago on the day of her graduation due to ovarian cancer.
Since then, I've wanted to do something to make a difference in the lives of others living with this cancer. That’s when I heard about Target Ovarian Cancer and the work they do, and decided to hold a charity gala in June in aid of the charity. The concert has a lively and exciting programme performed by many great musicians.
I hope to raise £5,000 and hope that this will help raise awareness of the symptoms amongst women and among GPs, especially since Katie’s diagnosis was complicated and the awareness and understanding of ovarian cancer was very low, even amongst the medical staff. I also hope my efforts will continue to fund life-saving research and provide women and their families with much needed support.
